New Year’s Eve – #Manitoba Under Wind Chill Warning!

Just for fun, I thought I’d share this with my readers around the world. Here’s what we’re dealing with right now in Central Canada:

Dec 31 Weather

The local news reports that Winnipeg is experiencing its second-coldest December since 1893.  Environment Canada says that frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes when the wind chill is -40 to -45, and less than five minutes when the wind chill is -45 to -50.

So I’m curious – what’s the weather like where YOU are in the world today?

How do you live in such temperatures from day-to-day? I think the lowest I have experienced was -20 when I was at sea and we were visiting a port in the then Soviet Far East in winter. Here in the UK we have had a couple of frosts this winter, but instead of cold we have wet and windy. We are reaching 10 celsius most days, but the winds have been strong with property damage in various parts of the country, including cliff top houses falling onto the beach on the east coast (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-25254808).

David – fortunately, our winters are not always quite this cold (this is definitely record-breaking). We usually experience lots of snow and temperatures of around -20, sometimes -30… but this is exceptional. Plus, winter only lasts a couple of months, and then we have nice hot summers, which I like! Blessings to you today… Happy New Year!

      • David says:

Blessings to you and your family too Chris. And a Happy New Year. Clear skies here now (late afternoon) but more stormy weather forecast tonight. It might stop a certain neighbour from setting off fireworks in the early hours as he does most new years!

Down here in Toronto it’s -10c. How can you guys survive that cold? It’s crazy.

  4. Mel Wild says:

Yikes, that’s cold! We have cold winters in the Upper Midwest US too, but ours is more like -10C (if I converted it right from Fahrenheit). We had beautiful snowfall today and enjoying the end of the year in a Winter wonderland. Will be praying it warms up for you!
    Have a blessed New Year!
