Buenos Dias amigos! It’s day #2 of our Costa Rica Mission Trip adventure… we arrived late last night in Liberia, Costa Rica, after almost missing our connecting flight in Houston (fortunately, it was delayed, so when our flight arrived late from Denver, we were able to catch it just in time!). Thankfully, no one lost their luggage (or favourite guitar!) this time around like the trip my wife Liza led here in 2012… so, we’re off to a good start!
We got settled in at our hotel in Casa de Palmas Coco late last night. It’s nice and rustic which is great for a mission trip… although it looks very beautiful on the outside, it is nice and quaint and humble on the inside… This morning, woke up to our first authentic Costa Rican meal with a breakfast of coffee (thank you Jesus), rice and beans, eggs, bread and iguana. (To those of you who just raised your eyebrows, the iguana was a joke, everything else tasted great though!).
After breakfast, we had our first team meeting with our amazing hosts with the mostest, Pastor John and Debbie Overholt, Canadian Fourquare missionaries who have been pastoring here in Costa Rica for the past 8 or so years. We had worship together (in Spanish!), prayed together, and went over our tentative itinerary for the next nine days.
After our meeting we bought some food supplies, spent some time in our hotel’s pool, met some new people, drank the fresh milk of some coconuts right off the trees on our hotel property, and worked on our team’s drama (How Great is Our God in Spanish) songs (Tu Amor Es Grande and the Spanish version of Jesus is My Superhero), cardboard testimonies, and prepared for our first church service happening this evening in Belen. We will be doing many different ministry activities over the next week including a children’s / family fair, street ministry, feeding the hungry, door to door visitation, church services, work projects, pastoral appreciation time and more.
The weather here is HOT! Please pray for our team as they adjust to life and ministry in a new country and culture, and prepare to be blessed, and be a blessing… God is good!
Keep checking back this week for more updates on the team…
