Here’s my latest column from our local Clipper newspaper…
Faith in Focus:
What a dark world we’re living in! It’s hard for those of us who live in Canada to accept the fact that half the world’s population – over three billion people – live on just $2 a day. That over one billion of them live on less than a dollar a day. That poverty, injustice, child slavery, human trafficking and suffering are realities in our world. But it’s true!
Edmund Burke said, “All that is necessary for evil to prosper is that enough good men do nothing.” In other words, it’s time to stand up and begin to make a difference for good in the world!
Richard Stearns, the president of the humanitarian organization World Vision, said, “What does God expect of us? What is the Christian faith about? Going to church every Sunday, saying grace before meals, and avoiding the most serious sins – or does God expect more?” The answer is that God expects more!
Our theme Scripture for 2015 is this: “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8). In other words, God is calling us to stand up and become more involved in what’s happening in our world, and begin to make a difference. For good. For God.
This year, we’re going to be the hands of God in our lost and hurting world. We’re going to DO SOMETHING. Will you join us?
