“God keep our land, glorious and free. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!”
It is both an awesome privilege and great responsibility to live in a democratic country like Canada. We are blessed to be able to have a say in our government, and this is one we should take seriously. If you are a Christian, I especially want to challenge you to be praying for and preparing to vote in this upcoming election! The Bible commands us:
“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior.“ (1 Timothy 2:1-3).
If we want to continue to enjoy the freedoms that we have in our nation, we must pray! And not only must we pray, but we must act.
Therefore, I want to introduce you to the:
Keep Our Land Initiative:
A federal election is scheduled for October 19th, 2015. Many national voices, Christian and secular, agree that this is one of the most important federal elections Canada has seen in a while. As Christians we are taught to seek the well-being of the land that we live in (Jeremiah 29:7). As Canadian Christians one of the ways we can seek the well-being of our nation is through responsible civic engagement at election time. Keep Our Land is a national initiative to equip us to be responsible citizens through 10 simple action points.
5 ACTION INITIATIVES:
Voting is one of the most important ways that Christians can have a Godly influence on Canada. In the last election several ridings were determined by less than a few hundred votes. This means every vote counts. We encourage every Christian to vote for Godly candidates.
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHO TO VOTE FOR?
Please see the Keep Our Land resources page for useful tips on determining what candidates have Godly values, how to get registered to vote, where to go to vote and more.
If you need help discerning Godly candidates in your riding feel free to give them an e-mail at email@example.com. They will be happy to give you any information we have regarding the position candidates have on various issues.
Please be advised that their knowledge base is limited and that due to volumes of e-mails it may take a few days for our team to respond to these types of questions. The quickest way to find out where a candidate stands on the issues is to contact their office and ask.
Volunteering in the campaign of a Godly candidate is a very effective way that you can help impact Canada during this election. Even a few hours makes a huge difference. Also, when you do it with a friend or as a group it is also a lot of fun!
MPs who get elected always remember those who served them in their campaign. Serving them will go a long way to building relationship with your future MP should your candidate win.
3) Asking The Right Questions
Attending town hall meetings (or debates between candidates) and asking the right questions is a very effective way to find out where your candidates stand. Not only does it help you get the answers you need but also informs other voters in the room as well. Below are a list of some great questions you can ask at a town hall meeting that will help you determine the position of candidates on important issues.
Consider giving to the campaign of candidates that you know have Godly values. It makes a real difference. Visit a candidates website to find out how you can make a donation to them today. You can also make a donation to the MY Canada Association to support the Keep Our Land initiative and future initiative. Please click here to go to MY Canada’s donation page now.
5) Spreading The Word
Please share the Keep Our Land initiative with those in your sphere of influence. The more Canadian Christians who are doing these points the greater the impact we will have. Every vote, every voice and every person matters.
